OSG in Mozambique

Our Safety Guy is proud to be working with Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in Mozambique in southern Africa with their liquefied natural gas (LNG) development.

Since 2010, Anadarko and its partners have drilled more than 30 successful deepwater wells within the Offshore Area 1 Block discovering an estimated 45 to 70 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of recoverable natural gas. Additionally, Anadarko and its partners are advancing a commercial liquefied natural gas (LNG) development onshore, with first cargoes planned in 2018.

These massive natural gas discoveries and future world-class LNG project represent a transformational opportunity for Mozambique to become a global exporter of LNG. This activity has the potential to generate substantial revenues for the government, long-term foreign investment, infrastructure improvements, as well as direct and induced-employment opportunities for many years to come.

Sustainability

As the Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project advances, we expect to support and invest in programs that will expand access to health services in local communities, improve educational and training opportunities aimed at building capacity to sustain a strong business environment, while taking great care to protect Mozambique’s natural environment.

The project supports the recruitment, training, and career progression of Mozambican citizens in the workforce, and the development of Mozambican-owned suppliers and service providers as part of the project’s supply chain.  Above all, Anadarko aims to develop a world-class LNG project that directly benefits the people of Mozambique, act as a good neighbor and contribute a new source of cleaner energy for the world.

Niassa Lion Program

Anadarko has partnered with the Niassa Lion Project (NLP), an innovative conservation effort working directly with the inhabitants of the Reserve on culturally appropriate, locally derived and empowering solutions to promote co-existence of local people and the iconic African lion.

Partners for Pediatric Progress

As part of the focus of improving healthcare in Mozambique, Anadarko established a partnership with Partners for Pediatric Progress in 2012 in support of the valuable change that they are bringing to the landscape of pediatric care. Anadarko’s support enabled PPP to hire a full-time physician based in Mozambique, as well as introduce pediatric training to the district of Palma in the northernmost province of Cabo Delgado.

Afungi Training Program

To meet Anadarko’s immediate need for qualified and trained individuals to assist in the construction of the LNG project and associated activities, as well as prepare the local community for employment opportunities, Anadarko established a training center on the Afungi peninsula in Palma district, the future location of the LNG park. Adult trainees from the local communities receive training on health, safety, and essential workplace skills in a program called “Work Well, Live Well.”
